Simon Cowell says Britney Spears is serious when it comes to finding talent.

“She’s not on the show to be Britney Spears on a TV show,” the X Factor boss, 52, says of the “Till the World Ends” singer, 30. “She’s actually there to prove to the world there’s more to her, and she’s got the ability to do this job really well. She’s taken the role really seriously.”

Part of what Cowell likes most about the pop star – with whom he is “fascinated” – is her down-to-earth nature.

“It’s quite interesting because when someone has done what she’s done as she has with her career, and being such a public person, you kind of think she is going to be very confident, but in real life she’s shy,” he says. “There’s kind of a mystique about her which I think is what kind of attracted me to her in the place.”

As for fellow judge Demi Lovato, 19, Cowell calls her a “total brat,” explaining that she’s “completely fearless, irreverent.”

Adds Cowell, “A lot of people who watch our show are 16, 17, 18 and younger, so we had to have someone I thought on the panel that could reflect that younger audience, and I’ve never done that before, and I wasn’t sure it was going to work.”

So far it’s working, Cowell says, and the new judges are opening his eyes and ears. “Because the two girls are on the panel,” he says, “I’m kind of seeing and hearing this in a totally different way.”

Britney Spears makes a stop at the Tommy Hilfiger Prep World Pop Up Shop at The Grove last week in Los Angeles.

The 29-year-old pop princess was joined by her adorable sons Sean and Jayden, her dad Jamie, and her assistant Brett for the shopping trip.

Britney, who used to be an ambassador for the brand, was invited by Tommy Hilfiger himself to the boutique and checked out such items as a blue seersucker blazer, a high heel navy boat shoe, a vintage whale print shift dress, classic polos in a rainbow of colors and more.

Britney Spears Performs “Till the World Ends”

Britney Spears proved to be a Femme Fatale when she hit the stage Friday night in Las Vegas. The pop superstar donned multiple costumes during her high-octane three-song set, and her fans loved every moment of it.

Emerie told MTV News moments after the show: “I love Britney! Everything was perfect. My favorite part was when she performed the song ‘Till the World Ends.’ Anything with Britney is amazing.”

Jewelry designer Heather Bettes added, “It was fantastic. Britney Spears, she looks stellar. She killed it. She really brought it The beading is amazing on her costumes. She looked great. She brought it.”

While fans described Spears’ big show as “awesome,” “sexy” and “the best thing ever,” two die-hards had a personal connection to the show.

“I loved it!” Danielle said of Brit’s performance at Rain nightclub in the Palms Casino and Resort. In fact, she loved it so much because her pal Mark is one of Brit’s dancers. While Mark was one of her favorite parts, she said Britney really shined.

“The very end of the last song [was awesome],” she explained about pop’s reigning queen. “She looked sexy. She’s hot.”

Daniel, who is not only Danielle’s friend but also Mark’s boyfriend, was very excited to see his beau onstage with the star. “He looked so sexy,” he proclaimed, adding that Brit had told the dancers that this show was all about her excited fans. “She wants to please all of her fans. She knocked it out of the box.”

Those good vibes were felt by Britney as well, who tweeted after the show, “OMFG it feels good to be on stage again!!”

For fans who may have missed it, they can check out Spears’ performance in an MTV special airing next week, with a tease dropping Tuesday, the same day as the release of Femme Fatale.
