Fedoras jazz it up

“I think Britney Spears was one of the first ones to don a fedora comfortably” says Ellen Goldstein, a professor in the Fashion Institute of Technology’s Accessories Design program. Spears wore a cream-colored fedora with a black band to a nightclub opening in Vegas back in 2007.

The hat’s popularity has been on the rise since, but is now being more publicized, and celebrities are largely responsible, Goldstein says.

The fedora stirs up memories of the 1940s, she says. When asked who most prominently wore them at that time, she easily provides the answer.

“Bogie.”

There was also Sinatra and even the character of Indiana Jones.

Of course, Humphrey Bogart was the quintessential man’s man, and Goldstein says the fedora was meant to be worn by just that type.

The fedora renaissance is an example of what she calls “heritage dressing,” a throwback to classic pieces and styles.

“Heritage dressing is a return to things we’ve known in the past, things that provide us a sense of security,” she says. “Levi jeans and leather jackets are good examples.”

Britney Spears may be getting ready to put the “SOLD” sign in front of her Studio City, CA mini-estate, RadarOnline.com has learned.  The pop star bought the property almost on a whim in December, 2006, right after splitting from husband Kevin Federline.  It’s where the likes of Sam Lutfi and dozens of friendly paparazzi hung out, and is where Britney was forcibly removed by police and paramedics the night she refused to turn son Jayden over to his dad.

Britney paid $7.2 million for the five bedroom, 6 1/2 bath house in the gated community called The Summit. It features a library, media room, and pool.  It’s been on the market since October, 2008. with a steadily declining list price.  The estate — and all its memories — is finally in escrow, sources say, for just under $6.3 million.

At least Brit’s making a ton of money on her world tour.
